Foster mamas, what is your escape?

12.16.2016 by Sarah //

Foster mamas, what’s your escape?

Your brain-break? Your restful place?

Mine is books.

Books and shows.

I prefer books. But, lets be honest, T.V. shows pack a story line into 30 minutes and when I need a break that’s about all I can squeeze out of a day.

So, I often resign myself to a quick episode of something rather than start that tempting 300 page YA fiction on my counter.

Because if I pick it up, I’m gone.

Down the rabbit hole.

No need for food or air, just words and pages and different times and places.

I once read Little Women in a day.

Yep, that kind of rabbit hole.

So every once in awhile I’ll abandon sleep, escape reality, and find respite in a galaxy far, far, away.

Which is why I usually have something ready to be downloaded onto my phone or sitting on my counter waiting for me (did you know you can get the Kindle app for FREE and read books on your phone? There are lots of books you can download for free too.).

I don’t get many books at the library now days. Not because I won’t finish them in time, but because when I actually do get that rare opportunity to devour one, I need to have it on hand and ready to go. So I either buy them really inexpensively on Amazon (many times under $1) or download them to the free Kindle app.

So, what’s your escape? Where do you go to rest and recoup? If you haven’t figured that out, I encourage you to do so. It’s not a waste of time, or just “one more thing to do”, it’s a way for you to take a moment, get perspective, and come back to reality refreshed and ready to love your foster kiddos well.
